Game Design Docs

Well, here we are at the end of our Daily DevLog Bonanza with Day 8! And as promised, we have a very special treat for you. Included in this post is an edited version of our current Game Design Document.

But before I let you get to that, first I’m going to let you know what exactly what a Game Design Document actually is.

A GDD is a living document that is created when a game enters production, and is used to store information about the games mechanics, ideas, design and any other relevant information for the design process.

Previously a document like this may have been made toward the beginning of the design process, and would then be followed as an outline of the game. This is still how story outlines can work for games. However, the design process of games has become more and more fluid over the years as it becomes more feasible to experiment during production, meaning that GDDs can be living documents that update over time.

By the way, a living document is a document that plates over time. With the GDD being living this means that we can add in new details. This means that, similar to the changes I’ve talked about previously can be seamlessly added to the document.

The version I have linked is the most recent full version, meaning that not all information may reflect where the game is in development. However it does show some of the processes behind the design process, and serves to show off how the team have approached the design process, and could be an interesting look for anyone interested in our game!

Until next time, be cool and stay safe!
