Mighty Mechanics

I know I know, I just haven’t talked about how the game will actually work, but guess what? That’s what we’re here to do today! Then again you probably already got that from the title, didn’t you? Anyway, onto the topic, today we’re going to look at how the game will work on a fight by fight basis, as well as some of the behind the scenes rules and systems.

First up, fighting. That is to say, pretending to fight. So as well all know television wrestlers don’t actually get up there and knock the daylights out of each other, at least, they’re not meant to. So that’s how fighting will work in this game, rather than fighting like in traditional wrestling games players will have to cooperate with each other to put on a show for their audience, the better the show the better the rewards. As above in an early layout of audience types, both players will need to pick moves and styles that will impress the given audience in order to improve their popularity, star power and unlock new moves.

These three elements will serve as the core of the fighting in this game, with Popularity stating how well liked a particular worker is, Star Power being an overall boost to a worker and new moves allowing players to put on an even better show time after time.

Players will put on these shows by starting a move and reacting within time windows to make it look like hits are landing and having an effect. What players can do is based on how much stamina they have left, with the only way to regenerate stamina being to take a fall and lay down for a while to let the bar build back up (relatable, I know). This adds another element for players to negotiate through the art of the fight, as no one wants a game that ends super quick, and no one wants a game where everyone just naps, we think? If that is what you want I mean let us know, I guess.

Above are our early prototypes of how these fights will ideally work, although with, you know, actual animations.

Anyway, that’s it from me for yet another week, let us know if there’s anything in particular you want to see me ramble on about and be cool and be kind!
