Production Talk

Hello and welcome back to Day 6! Hope you’re keeping well and not too sad we’re almost at the end of this years long from posts!

Today we’re going to take a look at the production process behind Wrestling Forever : Jobber. Production is something I talk about a lot in this blog, after all it is a Production Blog. But I haven’t really defined it or the processes that myself and the team go through it clear new ideas or concepts to bring them into the game. So today we’re going to have a quick look at how that cycle works, or at least how our team has come to interpret it working.

In one of the first posts in this feed I mention communication, something that every team needs. Without it ideas might be missed or people might use different software issues or change a variable just a little too much and throw off balancing. In short, communication is good and when it breaks down it can often lead to the game breaking down.

To aid in communicating new ideas within the team we talk both in class when we have them in person, and in our Discord server. Any time one of us has an idea we put it in the relevant channel and talk about it. This can be as simple as us all saying “yeah I think that works” and it can be as complicated as a two hour conversation hashing out the details of how something new will mesh with the work we’ve already done.

Once a consensus is reached at this early stage, a task is made on our Trello board and assigned to the relevant team member, or members in the case it requires active collaboration. After this the task is sorted into an upcoming Sprint.

Sprints can be approached in different ways by different teams. The way we approach them is one of the more simple ways. Once we hae decided who is tackling what we set our goals for the end of the week, we usually work Monday – Monday, and move them up the Trello board. This allows us to keep track of what each person in the team is up to and keeps us accountable to what we’re doing.

During the Sprint we each break down our task in a way that suits us and get to work. Occasionally we link in with each other where necessary in order to make sure we don’t stray too far down a rabbit hole, but beyond that we each work on our own thing. Too many chefs and soup and all that.

When we reach the end of a Sprint week we all put our work together to check it out and get fresh eyes on it. This lets us make sure that we can all check for mistakes or think of ways we could polish something a little bit more.

Once this is done and we’re all happy with something it’s added to the current build of the game and sent to our Google Drive and GitHub to make sure we have backups of our work.

We then restart the process either from the start or by picking out the next item that needs to be done from the Trello.

So, now you’re a little more clued in on what I mean when I mention or Production Process. If there’s any specific atopic that you’d like me to go into further detail on in future do let me know! Other than that have a good day!
